The Definition of Investment Counselor
Investment Counselors are a designation of financial advisors that are held to the highest standards for offering advice free of outside influences or undisclosed conflicts.
Our founder A.M. Clifford first coined the term Investment Counselor in 1915. We are charter members of the Investment Advisor Association (IAA, formerly, the Investment Counsel Association). Many of the principles of conduct first prescribed by A.M.Clifford in his treatise, The Investment Counselor (1925), and later adopted by the IAA, have been used by Congress, the Securities Exchange Commission, and the U.S. Supreme Court in defining the standards of fiduciary conduct applicable to all investment advisors.
